Marina and the Diamonds

Marina Lambrini Diamandis, better known as Marina and the Diamonds, is a Greek singer/songwriter based in the UK. Her stage name comes, not from any backing band, but from a literal translation of her last name. She has a style that can be best described as New Wave indie pop.

Take a listen to this song from her debut studio album, The Family Jewels:

I Am Not A Robot

And then, listen to this Passion Pit remix. Pretty sick, right?

Ska Theme Songs

Today, we won’t be focusing on just one artist’s or band’s work, but instead on the genre of Ska. Ska originated in Jamaica in the 1950s, predating reggae and rocksteady. There are three periods Ska music is divided into chronologically. Pop over to Wikipedia if you really want to learn about them. Otherwise, scroll down and enjoy.

Zion-I Remixes Rebelution

Rebelution’s song Safe and Sound stands pretty well on its own. But this remix from Zion-I takes the smooth reggae and picks up the tempo to turn it into a great song to listen to in the car, in your dorm, or even anywhere you can just sit back relax and let it flow over you.

Feel free to move with it:

Sleigh Bells

Lonely Island Remixes

I’m sure you’ve heard of The Lonely Island. They’re a comedy group made of up Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer that does a lot of musical parodies. Recently, they just released a single called I Just Had Sex featuring Akon. If you haven’t heard it yet, pop over to youtube and listen to it. After you’re done there, listen to these two remixes, one a bit more of a trance remix and the other an electrohouse type deal. Either way, they’re pretty danceable.

Samples & Big Gigantic Remix Black and Yellow

By now, you’re probably sick of hearing Wiz Khalifa’s Black and Yellow. Or maybe you’re not. But if it starts to wear on you, check out this filthy dubstep remix by Samples & Big Gigantic. It keeps the original’s party feel but gives you a beat that’s even better to dance to and has some synths that slap hard.

Big Gigantic is a duo that forages into hardcore rock, electronica, and everything in between.
